- PCTIMECHK SHAREWARE v2.01a INSTALL v2.0a HELP FILE
- 000119
- SOURCE DRIVE:
- The SOURCE Drive will always default to the drive where
- the Install program was started.
- Should you wish to run Install from another drive, enter
- that drive here. Only one character is required. You
- will be asked to verify that your entry is correct. Hit
- Y for YES or click the Y in the Window. Hit N for NO or
- click on the small n for NO. "No", will allow you to re-
- enter the option.
- Any drive from A: to Z: may be selected as a Source Drive.
- However, it must be an active drive on your PC.
- Use your mouse and click on the drive of your choice, using
- either the A: thru Z:, located in the drive letter box.
- Hit <Enter> to accept the default Source Drive.
- 000313
- USING MOUSE?:
- PC TIMECHK 2.0 is fully compatible with most Mouse. If you
- wish PC TIMECHK 2.0 to take advantage of the mouse, answer
- this question with a YES. Install will then know where to
- place PC TIMECHK 2.0 in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. If your sys-
- tem does not have a mouse, the default will be NO for no mouse.
- Detection of a mouse is automatic. Answering this question
- with a Y (yes) when there is no mouse driver loaded will cause
- an error message to open on your screen.
- Hit the <Enter> key to accept the default setting.
- 000221
- TARGET DRIVE:
- The TARGET Drive will always default to Drive C:.
- Should you wish to Install PC TIMECHK 2.0 on another drive,
- enter a drive letter from C: to Z:. PC TIMECHK is designed
- to run from your PC's "boot" Drive, which in most cases is
- the C: Drive, but PCTIMECHK will run from any drive.
- Use your mouse and click on the drive letter, or hit the
- letter key on which you wish to copy the PC TIMECHK 2.0 files
- on.
- PLEASE NOTE:
- PC TIMECHK 2.0 presumes that your C: Drive is your "boot drive"
- regardless of which drive you copy its file on to. This assump-
- tion is made for setting up your PATH and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
- Hit <Enter> to accept the default Target Drive.
- 000430
- UPDATE AUTOEXEC.BAT FILE?:
- Based upon the answers to the first four questions,
- Install will add PC TIMECHK 2.0 to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
- located in the PC's root directory. The AUTOEXEC.BAT file
- has instructions that tell your PC what to load into memory,
- what files to run and so forth. Install will read this
- ".BATch" file and determin where to place the PC TIMECHK 2.0
- information so it will run automatically each time your PC
- is started.
- Selecting N (no) will bypass this operation and will require
- this update to be done manually through a text editor.
- Should this file be longer than 70 lines, Install will not
- make any changes due to its length.
- PLEASE NOTE:
- PC TIMECHK 2.0 presumes that your C: Drive is your Boot Drive
- regardless of which drive you copy its file on. This
- assumption is made for setting up your PATH and AUTOEXEC
- .BAT files.
- If Drive C: is NOT YOUR BOOT DRIVE, answer NO to the "Change
- Your AUTOEXEC.BAT File" question. Manual changes will be
- required to set PC TIMECHK 2.0 into your PATH and modify your
- AUTOEXEC.BAT file. See the INSTALL documentation for com-
- plete details.
- Hit the <Enter> key to accept the default of Y (yes).
- 000513
- IS YOUR ENTRY CORRECT?
- This "Is your Entry Correct?" question allows you to review
- your selection and confirm that it is correct before proce-
- eding on to the next step. Answer with a Y (YES), hit the
- <Enter> key (default) for Y, or click on the Y with the left
- mouse button to accept your entry. If your entry is incor-
- rect, enter an N (NO), or click on the N with the left mouse
- button. The default or original entry will replace your
- entry. Make your entry again.
- No other key is valid for this response.
- 000629
- AT 286/386/486 OR HIGHER REQUIRED:
- PC TIMECHK 2.0 Install looks into your PC to see what type
- of processor is being used. In order for time check to be
- of value, other than telling you what time it is, it must be
- able to keep the time you enter as a new or correct time. To
- retain this new time, you must be using a PC of the AT family.
- Personal Computers of the XT or earlier type do not use a CMOS
- or "on board" clock, and therefore cannot retain the new time
- and date after the PC is powered off. XT and earlier PCs use
- some type of "add on" board that use a clock/calendar that is
- set through special software provided by the manufacturer of
- this board. The AT was the first to provide an "on board"
- clock and calendar. Before DOS 3.2, AT owners needed to use
- the "Set Up" diskette when setting the date and time. DOS
- 3.20 added this feature and eliminated the need for this
- extra date and time routine.
- PC TIMECHK 2.0 WILL NOT run on a non-AT machine because of the
- compiler code used to generate the ".EXE" file. Download
- from many of the more popular BBSs a copy of version 1.3 of
- PC TIMECHK, contact Ken Mummery Software, 8968 Ellingham St.,
- San Diego, California 92129-2110, USA, (619) 538-1020 for a
- copy which will run on the non-AT PCs, but WILL NOT make per-
- menent changes to the clock/calendar.
- Please see PC TIMECHK 2.0 documentation for requirements and
- further details.
- 000721
- DOS REQUIREMENT
- PC TIMECHK 2.0 Install looks at the version of the Disk Oper-
- ating System (DOS) currently being used by your PC. Install
- has determined that DOS is a version less than the minumum
- requirement of DOS 3.2 or higher.
- In order for PC TIMECHK 2.0 to affect a permanent change to
- your PC's date or time, 3.2 DOS or higher is required.
- Earlier versions of DOS do not have the ability to set your
- AT's CMOS clock and calendar.
- Ken Mummery Software recommends that you upgrade your DOS
- version to at the minimum 3.2 or higher before continuing
- with PC TIMECHK 2.0 Install. MS or PC DOS 5.0, or above, is
- highly recommended for its speed and memory handling abil-
- ities.
- Please refer to PC TIMECHK 2.0's Documentation for further
- details and requirements.

- drive, pressing the Y (YES) key will erase ALL files transfer-
- red to the Target, AND delete the directories. IF YOU ARE
- UPGRADING FROM A PRIOR VERSION, INSTALL WILL NOT ERASE FILES.

- and last digit of the current year, e.g., if today's date is
- May 14, 1993, then the file extension name will be ".143"
- This "backup" file is not set to "read only" and can be deleted
- or worked with easily.
- See the INSTALL documentation for more details.
- 00308

- INSTALL must know which drive on your PC is used to "boot"
- or start your PC. This information is used by the install
- program for locating the PC's AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Under
- normal conditions this is your C: drive.
- If C: is not your "boot" drive, enter the letter that
- represents that drive.
- 004116
- DISK_ID HAS INVALID OR MISSING DISK NUMBER
- The DISK_ID file found on the source diskette is bad or is
- missing the number that identifies which disk is in the
- source drive. This file and disk number is required so
- install can check the source diskette(s) for correct files.
- Enter either "1" or "2" in the space provided on the error
- window and hit <Enter>. INSTALL will place this number on
- the source diskette for future reference. Therefore, do not
- write protect the source diskette.

- files.
- 00635
- SERIAL NUMBER:
- Please enter the eight character serial number found on the
- Distribution diskette. All 8 characters must be entered.
- 007018
- PATH TOO LONG!
- INSTALL has determined that your "PATH" statement exceedes, or
- will exceed the maximum length acceptable by DOS after the
- addition of "[d]:\TIMECHK". The "acceptable length" may vary
- by DOS version or the reference material being used.
- See your DOS manual for extending the Path statement.
- INSTALL WILL NOT MODIFY YOUR PATH STATEMENT
- If you wish PC TIMECHK to be in your PC's PATH, you will need
- to modify it manually.
- PC TIMECHK will add the Target Drive and TIMECHK's path
- to the calls within the AUTOEXEC.BAT file so PC TIMECHK can
- be loaded automatically.
- 007510
- NO AUTOEXEC.BAT FILE FOUND....PC TIMECHK WILL ADD
- INSTALL could not find the AUTOEXEC.BAT file needed to prop-
- erly setup you PC. Therefore, one will be added for you
- and will provide a PATH statement, a Special "Date and Time"
- PROMPT statement, and TIMECHK as the called program.
- Select Y (Yes) if you wish INSTALL to add this file to your
- PC. N (No) to bypass and continue.
- 008016
- SOURCE DRIVE ENTRY ERROR
- The Source Dirve letter you entered and confirmed is not an
- acceptable entry. You can run INSTALL from either Drives A:
- to Z:, but MUST be a valid drive on your PC.
- Regardless of the drive entered, ALL of the INSTALL programs
- and required files must be found on the Source Drive named.
- If not, INSTALL will not be able to locate its required
- files when it does its "file checking".
- It is always best to run INSTALL from either your Drive A or
- from Drive B, and from the Distribution Diskette copy.
- Press <Esc> to clear and continue with the installation.
- 008115
- TARGET DRIVE ENTRY ERROR
- The Target Dirve letter you entered and confirmed is not an
- acceptable entry. You can install PC TIMECHK 2.x on either
- your "C" through Z" drives. The Target Drive must be a real
- drive located on your PC.
- In most cases, your "C" drive is your only hard drive. There-
- fore, INSTALL defaults to "C:". If you have a Drive D, and
- you select it as your distination, INSTALL will place all the
- necessary files on Drive D and setup you AUTOEXEC.BAT file
- changes on C.
- Press <Esc> to clear and continue with the installation.
- 008212
- MOUSE ENTRY ERROR
- The Mouse "Y" or "N" answer entered and confirmed is not an
- acceptable entry. Please enter a Y for yes or an N for No.
- INSTALL does further checking of your answer by verifiying
- your entry of YES by looking for the mouse. If none is found,
- INSTALL will inform you that it could not locate the mouse you
- stated you were useing.
- Press <Esc> to clear and continue with the installation.
- 008327
- AUTOEXEC.BAT FILE UPDATE ENTRY ERROR
- The entry made was not either a Y for YES, or an N for No.
- INSTALL needs to know "one way or the other" on this question.
- INSTALL can make several changes to your system's AUTOEXEC.BAT
- file if you so wish.
- INSTALL will check the length of the "PATH" statement and add
- "[Source Drive]:\TIMECHK" if there's room. As a general rule,
- INSTALL will NOT add on to the PATH if it finds the path longer
- than 125 characters in length. Why?... even DOS has limits on
- its "environment" space. See "your" DOS version's manual for
- how to extend you path's length and what the PATH statement
- really does for the operation of your system.
- INSTALL will add TIMECHK.EXE to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file so
- by restarting (boot) your TIMECHK file will run automatically.
- If your PC DOES NOT have an AUTOEXEC.BAT file, INSTALL will
- give you the very basic of one that has a PATH statement and
- a special "time & date" PROMPT command. Of course, TIMECHK
- is included in the file.
- Press <Esc> to clear and continue with the installation.
- 008422
- OVERWRITE OLD PC TIMECHK DATA FILE?
- During the process of overwriting a current PC TIMECHK .DAT
- file, the INSTALL program makes a backup copy of the the one
- found in the \TIMECHK\TCDATA directroy. To do this, INSTALL
- places an extraction of the current date as the old file's
- extension. For example, if today is July 26, 1993, INSTALL
- uses the day's date (26) and the last digit of the year (3) as
- the backup copy's extension, or ".263".
- However, during the process of making the backup copy, INSTALL
- has found a file using the current date's extension. You are
- being asked if you wish to OVERWRITE the existing backup copy
- or not.
- A YES answer will cause the current TIMECHK.DAT backup file
- to be erased and the "current" one to be placed as the backup.
- A NO answer will keep the current backup. The "to be replaced"
- file will be OVERWRITTEN by the TIMECHK.DAT file found on the
- Souce diskette.
- 009013
- MEMORY ERROR!
- INSTALL has detected that not enough memory is available to
- copy the necessary files to the Target drive. You will need
- to terminate INSTALL and remove all memory resident programs,
- (if any) that are currently running.
- Once removed, try INSTALL again.
- You may wish to copy all INSTALL files and their directories
- on to a "startup" or bootable diskette and run INSTALL in this
- manner.

- There is no help screen for this procedure.
